This is an extremely personal decision and there are various options available to you which will be discussed during your one on one breast augmentation consultation at their Scottsdale office.
Types of Breast Implants
One of the first and most important decisions during your Scottsdale breast augmentation consultation is regarding the type of implant you will use. Both Saline and Silicone implants are FDA approved and guarantee safety. As with any other choices in life, both of these have their own advantages as well as disadvantages.
Silicone Breast Implants
These breast implants are the closest to resembling real breast tissue. They come pre filled with silicone gel and are available in a variety of sizes and shapes. You will have to choose an implant size you would want to be inserted into your breasts during the procedure. These are approved by the FDA for patients above 22 years of age. Additionally, the risk of rippling of the breast skin is very low with Silicone implants as compared to saline implants.
Saline Breast Implants
These implants are filled up with a sterile salt water solution once they are inserted into the breasts. Unlike their Silicone counterparts, Saline breast implants are firmer to the touch and feel less like natural breast tissue. You can select the ideal size of the implant with your surgeon depending on your desired results. These have very few health risks and are FDA approved for patients above 18 years of age. There are no health risks in case the implants rupture and leak into your body.
Breast Augmentation Incision Options
When getting a Phoenix breast augmentation procedure done, there are 3 types of incisions that may be performed. These include an incision below the breast or inframammary, incision through the armpit or transaxillary and an incision along the areolar edge known as a peri-areolar incision.
This is the most common incision during a breast augmentation procedure in Scottsdale and specifically used during the use of Silicone breast implants. Being practiced in the United States over the last few decades, this carries the least risk of any complications as well. The incision is made below the breasts in the folds and is hidden well once fully recovered from surgery.
Of all the options, this one is the least visible because the incision is made in the armpit. This makes sure you get no scars near your breasts. Additionally, since this incision is also the smallest, it heals the fastest of all the three options. The procedure is performed with the use of an endoscope allowing the surgeon to view the implant inside the breast pocket. This ability allows the surgeon to make the best decisions and allows for precise placement of the chosen implant. The chance of excessive bleeding is also the least probable with this incision.
During a Peri-Areolar surgery, the incision is made along the lower edge of the Areola. Mostly at 4 to 5 cm, this incision is also discreet once healed because it is along the natural Areolar edge. It is especially beneficial to the surgeon due to easy accessibility to the implant pocket and is also beneficial to you because the incision is far from the actual implant, which reduces any risk arising from an infection of the incision site. The one major downfall to this incision is to women who may be planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding in the future. Nipple sensation could be effected and in rare cases may cause a total inability to breastfeed.
Types of Implant Placement
You have two choices regarding the placement of the chosen breast implants. These are above the muscle (subgladular) or below the muscle (submuscular). During your consultation with your surgeon, you can discuss these two options to figure out which would be best suited for your body. Your surgeon may recommend one of these for you depending on the shape of your breasts and your desired results from having a breast augmentation surgery in Mesa.
Subglandular Placement of Implants
During a Subglandular placement, the implant is placed above the muscle. By having the implants above the muscle and below the breast tissue, the surgery is quicker wish shorter recovery time. Another major benefit to this placement of the implant is that it allows for easy access to the implant in case of ruptures or leaks. However, there are disadvantages to this placement as well. Some of these are difficulties with mammography, a heightened risk of capsular contracture and also the fact that the implant can be easily felt when touched.
Submuscular placement of implants
During this placement, the implant is placed under your pectoral muscle. The major advantage to this type of placement is that the final result will feel and look the most natural. Since the implant can be easily differentiated from the breast tissue, there are no difficulties during imaging like a mammography. A submuscular placement, however, takes much longer to heal. If there is any future need to get to the implant, it would not only be more difficult, but the process would also take longer.
